Thanksgiving is just one week away, and I’m so excited. It’s always lovely to gather with friends and family to enjoy the day. When the extended family gets together, it’s a big group. Everyone brings a dish or two to share. This year all of the main dishes have been assigned so I decided to make a dessert. But I still wanted the dessert to be inspired by Thanksgiving. Sweet potato casserole is a Thanksgiving essential on many tables, especially in the south. Taking that as my inspiration, I created a delicious and unexpected dessert that everyone will enjoy: sweet potato muffins with toasted marshmallow icing.
The mellow sweetness of the sweet potato is a perfect harvest flavor. The slightly toasted marshmallow adds a bit of sweet whimsy to these muffins. There have already been rave reviews from my family for these sweet potato muffins. I am certain they will be a big hit at any Thanksgiving gathering.
Halloween is right around the corner. I hope your family’s costumes are ready for trick or treating. I was thinking of a cute way for kids to collect candy. Many people use those plastic pumpkins, but those are just asking to be spilled all over the road. I want to avoid the tears and candy carnage; so I decided to make a better treat bag. Your kids will love feeding candy to this friendly monster treat bag, and it is perfect for keeping candy safely inside.
This treat bag is cheap, easy, and quick to make. You can even involve the kids in making this little cutie. But I recommend you apply the hot glue for obvious reasons. 🙂 This also makes a great kids project for a Halloween party.
Happy October everyone! I am thoroughly enjoying sipping some hot tea while looking at the beautiful fall leaves outside my window. It may seem early in October, but I’m starting to get ready for Halloween. I really want to get a head start this year; so I can enjoy time with my family. Costumes may be the most time consuming of my Halloween preparations. I’m not into scary or creepy stuff, but I do love my tea as much as any Victorian. So I decided to embrace my inner Mad Hatter and create an adorable mini top hat as part of my costume this year.
One of the many things that I love about this mini top hat is that it doesn’t take much fabric or trim to make. It turned out so well. So I just had to share it with you. Because who doesn’t need a mini top hat this Halloween? 😀
