Happy August! I can’t believe it’s almost fall. Although fall is my favorite season, there is still plenty of summer fun left to enjoy. One of the major local highlights at the end of summer is the Minnesota State Fair. I don’t know about other fairs, but our state fair seems completely centered around food. That’s just fine with me. 😀 I love trying out some of the new food options and walking through the exhibits. Before I start drooling over anticipated treats, I have decided to try out a dessert recipe with a seasonal summer twist: chocolate zucchini cake. While I won’t be using any blue ribbon zucchinis, this dessert is simply delicious.
This cake is wonderfully moist and chocolatey without being too sweet. It is also one of those cakes that doesn’t need frosting. Just a dusting of powdered sugar, and you are ready to dig in. The grated zucchini inside keeps the cake nice and moist. Since it has zucchini in it, does it really count against you? Zucchini is healthy right?! 😉 Regardless if you are a fan of zucchini or not, you will enjoy every bite.
Hello everyone and hello summer! Okay while it isn’t technically summer yet, the weather would indicate otherwise. It has been glorious outside. This time of year always reminds me of making strawberry jam with my mom. The smell of the jam wafting through the house. She would even let me lick the spoon when everything was done. Serious I could have licked the mixing bowl clean. Homemade jam is amazing! Just thinking about it really triggers a craving for strawberries. So I decided to delve into my recipe stash, and I came up with a recipe for strawberry bread.

But lets not forget Thanksgiving. This year my family and I will be heading over grandma’s. I’m expecting anywhere from twenty to thirty relatives at Thanksgiving this year. Yeah, it’s a big group when the relatives get together. The dish I’ll be bringing this year is a cheesy artichoke dip.

Good morning all! Can you believe Easter is only two weeks away? The entire weekend is going to be chalk full of activities and family time. I have such fund memories of Easter growing up. The whole family would get together at my grandmother’s house at church. First we’d have an Easter egg hunt, then Sunday lunch, and finally a jelly bean hunt before sitting down to visit and play games. As you can imagine, Easter usually lasts all day for our family. So this year I thought I would bring a fun dessert for everyone to enjoy. After looking through my great grandmother’s recipe box, I found a yummy recipe for carrot cake. To make it a special treat I made an Easter egg shaped carrot cake.

Not everyone loves chocolate as much as I do, but we all love cinnamon rolls and cinnamon roll inspired treats. To keep with the Valentine’s Day theme, I created these delicious cinnamon twist pastry hearts.
These pastry hearts might look complicated, but with pre-made pastry sheets these tasty treats are easy to whip up. The rich cinnamon and brown sugar swirled throughout is so delicious. If you take it a step further and create the pink cream cheese frosting it’s like eating the middle of a cinnamon roll, which is the best part. 😀
