A Simple and Fun Way to Bring Your Family Together: DIY S’mores Maker

Hello everyone! How has your summer been so far? Are you ready for school to start? Yeah, me neither. We are trying to get every last ounce of fun out of summer while we still can. And making s’mores is one of the best ways to savor summer. But between thunderstorms, bugs, and no place for a fire pit, I created a portable s’mores maker (or a mini fire pit) that can go indoors and out.

Indoor-Outdoor S'mores Maker - Fun and Easy DIY to Bring the Family Together

Using lava rock and canned heat, you can make this tabletop s’mores maker. The lava rock keeps the container from heating up and is lightweight. So you can take it anywhere. The canned heat is easy to use and replace. And there’s no sparks or ash to worry about. The s’mores maker is perfect for indoors, tiny decks, or even taking on a picnic.

Here’s everything you need to make your own s’mores maker:

S'more Maker DIY Supplies

  • Oil pan
  • 2 bags of lava rock
  • 4-6 canned heat 7 oz. canisters

The oil pan and lava rock can be purchased from your local big box hardware store. While the canned heat can usually be found at your grocery store or online. Of course, you’ll also need s’mores ingredients and skewers to make s’mores. 😉

Assembling S'mores Maker

Start by emptying one bag of lava rock into the pan. Spread them out along the bottom as evenly as possible. Then set the cans of canned heat on top. You might need to move them around a bit so that they are mostly level. Take the second bag of lava rock and fill in around the cans.

When you are ready to enjoy some s’mores simply pop off the lids with a spoon and light the gel inside. And voila! You have your own s’mores maker!

Roasting Marshmallows on S'mores Maker

It’s like a mini fire pit that you can place on your table. The flames don’t reach very high, and the lava rock keeps the container from heating up. So you can enjoy this indoors and out. When you are done roasting marshmallows, simply put the lids back on the cans to squelch the flames. The cans are also easy to replace once you’ve used up the gel inside. So you can use this handle little s’mores maker over and over again.

Although you can use the s’mores maker indoors, you don’t have to let bugs force you to retreat. Right now at Heartland America the Repell Insect Trap is available at a great price. For more information check out the video below:
