4 Ingredient Nutella Popcorn Balls (or Hearts or Footballs or whatever)

Tomorrow, February 5th, is World Nutella® Day. So in honor of that, I have a yummy recipe for you – not that anyone really needs an excuse to enjoy Nutella®.

Confession: I could eat a whole jar of Nutella® by myself…but that’s certainly not good for my waistline no matter how yummy it is. So the only time I buy Nutella® is if I can make something to share with others.

With the big game and Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it is a great opportunity to make something sweet to share with the people I love. And this recipe only takes 4 ingredients, win win!

Nutella Popcorn Hearts

Ok it’s five if you count the powdered sugar to make cute designs on top. These Nutella Popcorn Balls can be shaped into hearts like is pictured above or whatever shape you want.

Without further ado, let’s get cooking!

Nutella Popcorn Ball Supplies

Here’s what you need:

  • 8 cups of popped popcorn
  • 5 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 bag of regular marshmallows
  • 1 cup of Nutella®
  • A large bowl
  • A large pot
  • Spatula
  • Cling film
  • Cookie cutter in the shape you desire (optional)

For adding the designs on top:

  • Powdered sugar for decoration
  • Scissors
  • Wax Paper

If you are using microwave popcorn, pop two bags of popcorn and transfer to a large bowl.

Popped Popcorn for Popcorn Balls

Make sure you don’t get any unpopped popcorn kernels in the bowl and inspect the bottom of the bowl just to make sure. No one wants to chip a tooth on an unpopped kernel in a popcorn ball.

Once you make sure the popcorn is kernel free, it’s time to make the marshmallow Nutella® magic.

Melting the butter

Melt 4 tablespoons of the butter in a large pot over medium heat.

Melting marshmallows

Add in the entire bag of marshmallows and stir all together. Now it’s time for Nutella! 😀

Nutella Marshmallow Mixture

Add a cup of Nutella to the marshmallows and the last tablespoon of butter and mix together. It does take a little while to get everything mixed and melted together. But once it’s becomes a delicious Nutella pool, it’s time to add popcorn.

Mixing Nutella and Popcorn

At this point you could put the mixture into greased pan then cut it into bars. But using cookie cutters to make shapes in much more fun. Turn down the heat to medium/low to keep the popcorn mix more pliable.

Pressing Nutella Popcorn into a cookie cutter mold

Line your table with cling film to keep mixture from sticking to the counter. Grease a cookie cutter, grab some of the Nutella popcorn mix, and press into the cookie cutter mold. You can always add more if you don’t have quite enough to fill the mold. If you want to add an extra layer of cute, all you need is powdered sugar, wax paper, and scissors.

Adding a Powder Sugar Heart

By folding a piece of wax paper in half, cut out a heart and place it on top of the Nutella popcorn. Use a small sifter to dust powdered sugar on top. Carefully lift the wax paper off the heart to keep the lines as clean as possible.

Nutella Popcorn Heart

Or you can even make something more free form like a football!

Roll in balls and form into a football using your hands. Cut the laces out of wax paper in the same way you cut out the heart. And sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Nutella Popcorn Footballs

These are great for a football party! They are also a perfect sweet snack to munch on during the big game.

So whether you make these for a big game party, Valentine’s Day, or just to celebrate World Nutella Day, I hope you enjoy them with friends and family.

In spite of the fact that it is February, I hope you and your family are keeping warm. If you are looking for a way to stay warm and cozy, Heartland America offers a variety of heaters that will save you money while keeping things nice and warm.
